Westbay Trip - Saturday September 25th 2010

2 dives out of Westbay diving from Ruby J.

First dive will be East Tennants Reef. (Depth 18-28m).

This site, 3 miles south of Seatown, is, according to many divers, one of the best reef dives in the area. A 2 mile stretch of deep water seperates this reef from West Tennants.

There is a lot of life here including Dogfish, Cuckoo Wrasse, Tompot Blennies and Topknots with large boulders covered with dead mans fingers and seafans. These gradually give way to flattened slabs with lots of nooks and crannies to peer into. Many scallops can be found on sandy ground between reefs.

Please watch your finning here though as this is a marine life study area where 'Reef Research' is monitoring the ecology of the pink seafan, abundant in here.

The second dive will be High Ground Reef. (Depth 6m, 15m off the edges, rocky ground).

About 3/4 mile out from Eype the sea bed becomes rocky with depths of around 6m. You can find crab and lobsters in these rocks along with skate and plaice off the edges on the sandy patches. Scallops can also be picked up on the southern edges.

The highest part of the reef, to the SW, has a particularly good drop off making a fantastic dive.

This site is excellent for experienced and novice alike, tidal currants being weak. Wreck divers have been shown the light as regards reefs here!

Cost of the day is £45, and you will need to make sure that you have two cylinders, dsmb, and anything else you require with you, as the boat will not be returning to harbour inbetween dives.

This trip is open to divers who are Advanced Open Water and above. There will be a maximum number of 10 divers on board, so plenty of room to move around, and also an instructor to give advice or lend a hand.

To book, contact Les or Kelly at Polar Bear Diving, by either e-mailing polarbeardiving@aol.com, or by phoning 07958 320322 (Les) or 07958 320301 (Kelly). Payment in full at time of booking. Cheques made payable to: Yvonne Gibson, and sent to 14 Plum Tree Close, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 4XG.

N.B. Dive sites are subject to change depending on the weather.
